Medium dry and medium coarse, light-brown. Delicate rose and cognac flavour. Quite strong and very nice.

The scent of rose in this snuff is light and realistic not perfumed, it lingers in the nose, fresh air a hour later still brings me the scent of rose as if I crushed a fresh rose petal. I do not sense the cognac in it other than to say there is a hint of "other" along with the rose. This snuff also delivers that fine tobacco scent along with the rose, again very light and pleasing to the senses.

Summary snuff

Snuff's advantages Wonderful light rose scent and rich tobacco
Snuff's defects little bit of a nose run

Macuba (a variant spelling of Macouba) shares almost nothing in common with its F&T namesake. The only things that unite them are the rose oil in the scenting. Like all de Kralingse snuffs, this is snuff resurrected from the history books and made in a working pair of windmills. This of course is evidence that macoubas of old were widely varied (apart from the rose scenting). The other scenting here is cognac which blends beutifully with the Virginia tobacco and the rose. DeKralingse uses this base for several of their snuffs, but the cognac flavor is only in this and Prins Regent.
This blend of flavors is truly magnificent and gives a sort of rustic "rope" scent or character. It has a pleasant enough nicotine effect but the course grind tends to make it somewhat tricky and it will make the nose run and may cause some throast drip. Other than that, its easy enough for a beginner to take, though. My only complaint is that the snuff will get dried out too quickly and the boxes it is sold in are not very airtight. I recommend buying it fresh and then decanting into a better sealing container unless you plan on using it quickly. Also recommended for those who dislike florals, as the floral nature of this is toned down and well balanced by the cognac

Summary snuff

Snuff's advantages Historical snuff. Traditional manufacture. Really tasty too!

Another snuff using the Virginia tobacco base I am so enamored with.
It offers up a clean, sweet, hay or herbal quality for the grinder to play with.

The Macuba then, is a light brown, medium grind, medium to low moisture snuff with a medium to high nicotine content.
A light scent of rose competes with the sweet tobacco for front row when first taken up. Not a perfume rose mind, rather the smell of the blossom itself with a citrus underscore is what ends up being dominate over the tobacco. But only by the slightest of margins!

For me this is an extremely easy to take snuff. Many floral snuffs leave me with the sense of a talcum powder smell for a finish.
I've as yet to get that from any of the de Kralingse products, the Macuba being no exception.

A wonderful, wonderful snuff!

Summary snuff

Snuff's advantages Balanced tobacco, rose and citrus
Snuff's defects Less than air-tight container
